Senegal Highlights

  Senegal is a country with a time-honored history and rich culture. As part of the Plan Senegal Emergent (PSE) undertaken by President Macky Sall, Senegalese economy becomes transformed from being heavily reliant on fisheries and agriculture to a not too distant future where massive oil and gas deposits will provide a boost to the Senegalese economy.


  In July 2018, Senegal became the first African country to sign up for “Belt and Road Initiative”. The practical cooperation between China and Senegal has promoted the development of Senegal’s inland region and effectively enhance Senegal’s economic competitiveness.


  Therefore, Senegal is not only an amazing destination for culture and tourism, but also a regional business hub for logistics, services and industries connecting Africa to the rest of the world. We are pleased to welcome you to our wonderful country to gain a much deeper understanding.


The Pink Lake – The Pink Lake lies north of the Cap Vert peninsula of Senegal, some 30 km north-east of the capital, Dakar, in northwest Africa. It is named for its pink water caused by Dunaliella salina algae and is known for its high salt content, up to 40% in some areas..

Island of Gorée – Island of Gorée lies off the coast of Senegal, opposite Dakar. From the 15th to the 19th century, it was the largest slave-trading centre on the African coast. It was inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1978.

Lions of Teranga (Football team) – The Senegal national football team nicknamed the Lions of Teranga, represents Senegal in international association football competition and is operated by the Senegalese Football Federation. Senegal has clinched its first-ever The Africa Cup of Nations (AFOCN) title this year (2022) after two previous AFCON final defeats in 2019 and 2002.

Sabar drumming – Sabar drumming by far the most common instrument in Senegal. It is usually accompanied by dancing and takes place for special occasions and festivals including births, weddings and other special celebrations.
